Dublin and Jeanie Johnston

Our arrival in Dublin airport and the Jeanie Johnston

Dublin Airport

We always entered Ireland from Dublin airport. It's the biggest option in Ireland and the one of the only ones you can book a flight to and from Switzerland.

Old ship "Jeanie Johnston"

We visited the Jeanie Johnston here in Dublin. It's a reconstruction of an old ship, that transported people from Ireland to America. It was the only one, that it was safe to do this trip with. It had good medication, and you lived by good standards. It transported 2,500 of the one million Irish people that fled during the famine in Ireland.

The great guide

During the times the Jeanie Johnston was constructed the only profitable crop was the potato, our guide told us. By the way, that guide is so good he's like half the attraction. I hope you get him, too, if you visit the Jeanie Johston.

Irish famine

A disease spread across Ireland making the potatoes not grow. Many Irish died, as they also haven't received any support from England.

Ireland's population still hasn't recovered from this event.

The Jeanie Johnston baby

We also learned that there's a child born on the Jeanie Johnston, called:

Nicholas Richard James Thomas William John Gabriel Carls Arthur Edward Johnston Reilly

  1. The Jeanie Johnston is a fascinating museum that offers a deep dive into the history of Irish emigration. As a visitor, I was captivated by the authentic replica of the ship and the engaging stories of the passengers who once sailed on it.
