Cloonglasney, Silver Eel and Mullen

Around our home

Read what we regularly do in Ireland and which restaurant we can recommend.

Cloonglasney

After our arrival in Dublin, we usually drive home to our house in Cloonglasney.

Here in the middle of the island of Ireland, you can enjoy mostly untouched nature. We also once visited an old cross here.

The Silver Eel

We've spent a long time in Ireland, and we've still not found a better restaurant than the Silver Eel. For a long time, it was open seven days a week, but now it's sadly just open on the weekend. Despite this limitation, they make double as good food for half the price compared to what we have here in Switzerland.

You can also park your boat there, and it's connected to the Shannon, the biggest river in Ireland.

Mullen

Also, very close to Cloonglasney lies Mullen. I know someone with the last name McMullen, so how could I not cover this small village? We went here to send a package back to Switzerland. At the time, we didn't know that we were in Mullen, but the name Regan Tractor and Jeep Sales, we remembered well. A road going directly through Mullen, Castlerea Road, has a lot of traffic, as it connects Carrick-on-Shannon and Castlerea, two slightly larger cities in Ireland. There isn't that much else to be found in Mullen, still, it's just 35 minutes away from Cloonglasney and a wonderful little place.
